Discussion: Drug Legalization

Should all drugs be legal? In addition to individual freedom, advocates point out that drug prohibition fosters organized crime. Moreover, enforcement efforts often harm minority communities disproportionately. What restrictions would be needed to minimize inadvertent harm or social disruption? These questions apply not only to recreational drugs, but to ‘cures’ that the scientific consensus views as ineffective and dangerous.
