The Way of Writing:道-MICHI-The Japanese Way by Japanese practioner Zane
The DECK [ザ・デッキ], 大阪市中央区南本町2-1-1 1F, Tokyo, JPThe Way of Writing: Zen Calligraphy & Mindful Practice
Are you ready to go beyond the surface level of Japanese culture?✨
As part of the "Digital Nomad Week Osaka 2026 Spring," we are incredibly honored to host a special, life-changing workshop: "The Way of Writing" (道 -MICHI-).Hosted by Zane, a dedicated "Japanese practitioner," this is NOT your typical tourist calligraphy class where you just learn to write a pretty word.
This is a profound practice of mindfulness, self-discovery, and understanding the true "Japanese Way."■ The Philosophy: The Character Becomes a Mirror Inside each kanji character carries the seed of the Japanese way. When you write, the character becomes a mirror. In real-time, you will see your own inner state reflected on the paper—hesitation, force, clarity, and flow. Through repetition and refinement of the brushstrokes, your physical form begins to align. And as your form aligns, so will your mind.
■ What to Expect (The Experience):
- Step 1: Become a Student of Form. Upon entering, all guests will be provided with a traditional Japanese "Hanten" (a classic artisan's coat) to wear. You will physically and mentally step into the role of a practitioner.
- Step 2: The Dialogue with One Kanji. You will choose ONE single character. Through repetition, correction, and deep refinement, that one character will become your personal path.
- Step 3: The Master's Demonstration. The practice will conclude with a powerful final demonstration by Zane, leaving you with a newfound understanding of yourself, the Kanji, and the core of Japanese culture.
■ Why this Workshop at The DECK?
As a digital nomad or traveler, it can be difficult to truly grasp the "Way of the Japanese" and go beyond what you see in guidebooks. The DECK is a space for nomads to immerse themselves in local connections, and Zane’s workshop provides the ultimate gateway to make your stay in Japan incredibly intentional, fulfilling, and transformative.📅 Schedule:
- Date: Wednesday, April 8th
- Time: 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
- Location: The DECK (Sakaisuji-Hommachi)
💰 Cost & Payment:
- The DECK Monthly Members: 3,000JPY
- Non-Members / General: 4,000JPY
Space is extremely limited to ensure an intimate and focused environment. Put on your Hanten, pick up the brush, and discover a new way of being. RSVP now!
Please note that once you have registered, the registration fee is non-refundable.
Optional After-Party: Izakaya & Bar Hopping! (From 6:00 PM) After the workshop wraps up around 6:00 PM, how about we grab some dinner and drinks together?
We are planning a casual Izakaya dinner and a bit of "Bar Hopping" around the local neighborhood near The DECK. Zane will be joining us, along with The DECK’s CEO, Tomo, and our lovely Community Coordinator, Tomoe!
This is a completely optional, super relaxed hangout. It’s the perfect chance to share our backgrounds, talk about what we discovered during the workshop, and make some genuine friends over delicious local Japanese food. Let's keep the good vibes going! (Note: Food and drinks for the after-party will be pay-as-you-go / individual tabs).
