What we're about

This group is for all IT professionals, past, present, and future. We are a dedicated group of professionals who love to learn about anything in the broad IT field, and our group is for all skill levels. We host at least one meetup a month where we get together to learn about new technologies, fields, and opportunities. Our guest speakers are full-time professionals who work with cutting-edge technologies and want to share their passions.

Recruiters are always welcome at our events. Networking is a key to success when you are job hunting, so please reach out to any of the organizers with your resume if you would like us to give it to our recruiting partners.

Intellectual Point has been kind enough to host our meetup since its inception. If you would like to connect with Carrie at Intellectual Point please use carrie@intellectualpoint.com.

Audience
Existing and potential students interested in learning more about career opportunities, either inside of IT (e.g., the CompTIA IT career pathway) or outside of IT (e.g., who wish to become data analysts).

Description
For decades, now, we have seen data analytics become a core skill for IT and security professionals. Almost thirty years ago, database and web analytics became hot job roles. Over the last ten years, security analysts have applied data principles to address security, privacy, and governance concerns. The trend continues: Data analytics is not just a niche skill; it has become a mainstream skill for the security workforce. More job roles are required to create context, better communicate vital business intelligence, and implement essential security architectures.

IT workers are now expected to move from being data janitors to data curators. Join CompTIA’s Dr. James Stanger as he discusses how you can get ahead of the data curve to learn more about how data skills are relevant to IT workers, as well as those interested in data-oriented roles outside of traditional IT. In this meetup, James will discuss unique and important data skills you need to learn. More importantly, he’ll show you how you, with a little effort, can learn these essential skills.

Do you want to start a career in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, but don't know where to begin? If so, this meetup can help by providing an ideal foundational mapping of the career paths and certifications that IT professionals should consider if they're interested in transitioning to AI and ML.

We will show Jetson Nano AI in Action - https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/autonomous-machines/embedded-systems/jetbot-ai-robot-kit/

We will also show Mavic Mini in action using AI and cover fundamentals of Drone Technology - https://www.dji.com/mavic-mini

Artificial intelligence is now being used in an ever-expanding array of products: cars that drive themselves; robots that identify and eradicate weeds; computers able to distinguish dangerous skin cancers from benign moles; and smart locks, thermostats, speakers and digital assistants that are bringing the technology into homes. Machine learning engineers develop devices and software that use predictive technology, such as Apple’s Siri or weather-forecasting apps. They ensure machine learning algorithms have the data that needs to be processed and analyze huge amounts of real-time data to make machine learning models more accurate.

The expanding applications for AI have also created a shortage of qualified workers in the field. The demand for people with skills and certifications in AI, ML, Deep Learning and Blockchain is just skyrocketing. Gartner estimates AI will create 2.3 million new jobs in 2020 while eliminating 1.8 million positions. And according to a 2019 Dun & Bradstreet report, 40% of organizations are adding more jobs as a result of adopting AI, while only 8% are cutting jobs because of the new technology.

Are you looking forward to launching your career in AI, ML, Blockchain? The AI / ML landscape is evolving rapidly, and corporations are scrambling to find skilled people to fill the AI/ML/Data Science positions. There is clearly an acute shortage of skilled AI professionals. The presentation will highlight critical skills required in the next generation of AI/ML professionals and how is the role of a Data Scientist rapidly evolving with the advent of advanced AI/ML use-cases and technologies.

This AI meetup will give you insights into the most trending technologies, hiring companies, the skills required to jumpstart your career in the thriving field of AI, and offers you a personalized roadmap to becoming a successful AI expert. The Artificial Intelligence Meetup will give you insights into the most trending technologies, the top companies that are hiring, the skills required to jumpstart your career in the thriving field of AI.

Attendees will walk away with a clear understanding of practical AI/ML/Data Science career pathways, popular tools and skills, and how to break into this new AI-focused career. You will even get to see some cool AI and Robotics demos in action. Newcomers have a chance to meet with others who are eager to break into the field and returning members get to share their experience about where their adventures in the AI/ML field have taken them. If you are a job seeker bring along some copies of your resume and business cards.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being developed at a breathtaking pace across nearly every industry and government sector. As decisions shift to rely on machine learning (ML) technology, companies and governments are at risk of embedded bias in the technology.

This session will discuss how biases in AI ML systems unconsciously create undesirable social outcomes that give an unfair advantage to certain groups of people at the cost of another. Inherented biases can include race, ethnicity, gender, disability, and religion within an institution's data ecosystem. If we choose to neglect this problem, then the tension will remain within marketplace equity and digital monopolies as a result of emerging inequalities due to technological advancements. While surveying the field of algorithmic bias detection processes, it appears that software such as IBM AI Fairness 360 or Microsoft Fairlearn are the predominant models that check for accuracy distribution in data through control groups based on correlation methods. However, no standards have been established to validate that IBM or Microsoft is correct due to the recent research based on causal inference theories instead of correlation methods.

This is a gap within technological innovation that needs further development because if we applied causal inference theories into AI ML systems it would establish new criteria for ethical AI fairness.

Learning objectives for this session include:
• Demonstrate the effects of fairness in ML models
• Examine current regulatory frameworks for assessing AI systems
• Introduce best-practice technology solution to audit FAIRNESS
• Provide an overview for the full spectrum for auditing AI

Ethical hacking is a term used to describe hacking done by a person/individual to identify the potential vulnerabilities or weaknesses in the system that could be exploited by a malicious hacker. Hacking without the knowledge and permission of the target is illegal. It is always recommended to set up our own lab and practice hacking. Just like any discipline, you need to practice, practice, and practice some more before you take it out to the real world.

Virtual machines and a virtual network are the safest and best bet when it comes to setting up a hacking lab. There are many virtualization systems out there, which include Citrix, KVM, Microsoft’s Virtual PC, Oracle’s VirtualBox, and Hyper-V, and VMware’s Workstation, VMware Player and ESXi.

In this meetup, we will show you the simplest and fastest way to set up a lab to practice your hacks before taking them out into the real world where any slip-ups could be devastating!
