What weβre about
Dim Sum Labs is a group of Designers, Programmers, Artists, Creators, Innovators, Visionaries, Techies, Entrepreneurs, Inventors, Engineers, Funders and Starters and those curious and inquiring minds who wish share ideas and collaborate to create.
We meet every Tuesday night from 8pm to late at Dim Sum Labs, Sheung Wan.
We also hold a wide variety of hands-on and theoretical workshops.
We also aspire to be artisans, moving beyond the realm of the theoretical to physically implement our ideas.
We believe that Dim Sum Labs will be defined by both the people that we attract, as well as by the workshops and projects that we create.

See all- Bamboo & Banyans: 3D modeling with SpeedTreeDim Sum Labs, Hong Kong Island, HI
During a 20 minute presentation, Felix will give an introduction to SpeedTree in the context of living architecture. Afterwards, we will socialize, exchange ideas, and perhaps try to model some banyans or even a Hong Kong ficus wall.
SpeedTree is a software for 3D modeling of trees primarily for games and movies. It runs on Linux, Windows, and MacOS. It is fast. System requirements are modest. Feel free to bring your own computer.
Living architecture is the creation of structures out of living trees. An example is that of the living root bridges in Meghalaya, India. Aerial roots of a banyan tree are guided along a bamboo scaffold. Over the course of decades, the bamboo bridge transforms into a living organism. In Hong Kong we find the Kam Tin Tree house. A banyan has replaced an old brick building, by accident. A contemporary example of living architecture in Europe is the plane tree cube by German architecture studio OLA.
With SpeedTree, Felix hopes to have discovered a tool that enables visualization and communication of concepts for living architecture. It works well in conjunction with CAD systems such as Rhino 3D.
The door opens at 7 pm. The presentation starts at 7:30 pm. There will be drinks and friendly people from all walks of art and technology
