Using Nix for Python development like it's 2025 @ Weekly Social HackJam

Details

## Summary
Nix is a powerful declarative package manager & meta build system that's used for everything from development shells to a full fledged Linux distribution (NixOS).

In this talk I will start off by giving an introduction to the why's and how's of Nix & using it for development shells, first more generally.

We'll then dive further into using Nix for Python package management & how to use [pyproject.nix](https://github.com/pyproject-nix/pyproject.nix) together with uv2nix to wrangle everything from simple projects using requirements.txt & pyproject.toml to complex applications and monorepos.

## Speaker background

Adisbladis is a freelance Nix consultant & nixpkgs committer, where he mostly enjoys working on lower level plumbing such as lib & stdenv, but also maintains Emacs & it's package ecosystem.

Python developer in a previous life. He is the author of previous Python packaging efforts like poetry2nix.
