20th Annual Chinese Dinner: Year Of The Snake!

Details

Yes, it's that time of year again... the Chinese New Year! This will be the twentieth(!) year I've hosted my annual Chinese New Year celebration, and the seventh time for this group at our new home for the event, Wonton King in University City! For 2024, we commence the year of the Snake!

Cuisine - Wonton King specializes in Hong Kong style Chinese food, but that doesn't mean you won't still see all your favorites. Personally, my go-to dish here for years has been the sesame shrimp, which is the best version of that dish I've ever tasted. Their orange beef is my other go-to dish, and it's also hands down the best version of this dish anywhere. Their moo-shu pork is one of the best moo-shu I've ever tasted, not to mention a huge portion! Their variety is amazing, and you'll find things like hot pot (with seven variations), nearly 40 different dinners based on fried rice, fried noodles, rice noodles, or braised noodles (the latter a Hong Kong specialty), plus whole sections for BBQ, congee, specialties, and healthy dishes. And I've still barely scratched the surface of the menu. Beef, pork, chicken, seafood, vegetables... they have the entire gamut. And every one of them is simply superb.

Price - Wonton King is also one of the better-priced Chinese places around for such a big menu and great food. Every restaurant I know of has raised prices in the last couple years, and Wonton King is no exception, but they are still quite reasonable. The main dishes start in the low teens and top out in the low twenties. In my book they are easily one of the best deals in the area in terms of the great food you get for the price!

Other Info - Wonton King is located in the "Asian" area along Olive Blvd in University City, about a mile east of I-170, on the south side of the street. They are across the street from McDonalds and Papa John's. Plenty of parking right out front or on the side.

Chinese food is great for sharing, and you're welcome to do so if you wish; just remember if you ordered it, it'll be on your bill.

I am hosting a Chinese New Year dinner two days earlier (Tuesday the 28th) for my Dine Out West County group (at a different restaurant, of course); feel free to come to one or both if you would like!

I'll be looking forward to seeing lots of my foodie friends at Wonton King on Thursday the 30th for my 20th annual Chinese New Year dinner!
