Animal Sanctuary Workday

We want to make sure we are helping as many sanctuaries as possible so we are very excited to be going to Jolene's Retreat Animal Sanctuary for our August workday. This is a brand new sanctuary located in beautiful Occidental, CA. Kathy Cullen, the founder, wanted to start slowly to make sure she was able to construct a safe, comfortable, and fun place for future residents. She decided to take in a family of 5 pigs (Mom, Dad, and 3 babies) in an emergency situation. Little did she know that Mom was already pregnant which led to 5 more (incredibly cute) little piggies, effectively doubling residency! As if that wasn't enough, it turns out that the female baby pig was ALSO PREGNANT and will be giving birth soon.

Needless to say, this is more than Jolene's Retreat was prepared for and they definitely need help so we want to provide that help. I am excited to see this new sanctuary and hear all about what we can do to make it even better for the residents.

We encourage carpooling as much as possible so reach out if you need a ride or can offer a ride.

We will gather and go over tasks at 10am so please be on time. Food/snacks will be provided but feel free to bring your own food. Make sure to have a water bottle to keep with you as you work. We will help with chores around the sanctuary. Please wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty, jeans are best, work boots or strong shoes (no open toed shoes), and gloves (there will be gloves provided if you do not have your own).

There will be a mandatory waiver to sign when you arrive.
Spending time with the animals we are fighting for is not only good for your mental health and well being but it reinforces our commitment to the cause.
