⁨Meetup: Finding Unique Ways to Hold Animal-Abusing Corporations Accountable

Factory farms across California consistently violate animal cruelty laws. DxE investigators have reported these violations to authorities in a dozen counties, yet no meaningful action is even taken.

There are, however, a few unique provisions in California law that provide some novel ways for holding corporations accountable for animal abuse. California Penal Code 599a requires a judge to issue a search warrant if a complaint is made to them under oath that animal cruelty laws are or about to be violated, and California Corporations Code 10404 allows humane societies to sue corporations directly for animal cruelty.

At this Meetup we will hear from Will Lowrey, founder and Legal Counsel for Animal Partisan, about his current efforts to use CPC 599a, and from Alene Anello, attorney and founder of Legal Impact for Chickens, about her efforts to use 10404, including LIC’s current lawsuit against Alexandre Dairy.
