Meetup: The Prairieland Case, What Happened & What We Can Learn

The Prairieland defendants’ sentences of 30, 50, 70, and 100 year are shocking… and scary to activists around the world who are fighting for human and animal liberation. At this Meetup we will hear from Amber Lowrey of the Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) Support Committee and sister of defendant Savanna Batten. Amber will speak about the context of the case, what happened, who the defendants are, how we can support them, and what we as activists can learn from this.

After the presentation we will hang out and write letters to the defendants who are currently incarcerated.

What is the Prairieland case?
The case involves 22 people arrested for their alleged involvement in the events at and following a noise demo (protest) on July 4th 2025 in solidarity with Detainees at the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas, south of Fort Worth. The defendants face life-altering state and federal charges. All but four are still in custody, held on multi-million dollar bails and enduring horrific conditions. The accusations of the government are absurd, and the police response has been extreme, making it obvious that this is part of an effort to criminalize dissent along with the other high profile cases in Spokane, Portland, and Illinois. It has repeatedly been used by the Trump administration and its allies as an example of violence by “antifa.”
