Alpine Ski Tour: Wolf Creek Beacon Park, Pit Practice, and Turns - Uintas
Details
UAC has installed a beacon training park near Wolf Creek Summit in the Uintas . Let's go practice. Participants will need a beacon and probe. We do not dig up the beacons. This is also an opportunity to test the multi-burial functionality of your beacon. Please let me know if you need to borrow a beacon and probe.
You can log the results of your beacon search here: WMC Beacon Challenge
After the beacon park, we will move above the Wolf Creek campground and practice digging pits and analyzing snow structure using both CT and ECT. Please let me know if you need to borrow a shovel.
After our beacon park and pit practice, let's get some lines on surrounding terrain. Possibilities include short tree lines above Wolf Creek Campground, low angle lines on looker's left of Wolf Creek Bowl. What we ski will depend on avalanche forecast risk and ability of participants. We will not ski any lines that put us on or under slopes above 30 degrees if those aspects and elevations are orange/considerable for any avalanche problem or yellow/moderate for PWL. Touring these areas requires full avalanche rescue gear (beacon, shovel, probe), knowledge of use of gear, and ability to assess terrain. Participants need to review the forecast linked below in the morning before meeting for this tour.
Please RSVP via EMAIL for meeting location and time. If I have not toured with you, please include details regarding your skiing ability and avalanche education.
We will dine and drink at Mirror Lake Diner post tour.
