What we’re about

Discovery Community, Inc. is an all volunteer group of self-identified queer men. It was founded in 1987 in response to the AIDS crisis, and was later incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. The mission of our community is to provide itself with ongoing opportunities for social connection, personal growth, and community development to develop long lasting relationships that support ourselves through various personal and societal changes over time.

We help each other organize a variety of monthly social activities and events to share and enjoy the experience of either personal and/or group interests and talents. We also organize some weekend retreats in non urban areas around the Bay Area to experience the uniqueness of living in our community while we explore and celebrate our life challenges and successes, as we adapt to personal and societal changes over time. Our activities are open to all self-identified queer men who are either familiar or new to Discovery. We support each other by volunteering either to plan an activity or event, actively participate as a leader on our Board of Directors, or simply donate any amount of either time, effort or money, at any time, to sustain the general well being of our Discovery Community over time.
