Southern Rhône Wines
Details
Our next virtual event will be on the wines of the Southern Rhone valley in France. Known for their powerful reds, but also some complex white wines. This will be a great event with lots of history, stories, distinctive wines and producers to discuss. We start off with some slides and then we go around to talk about what we are drinking.
As always we welcome new attendees - bring a bottle from the region if you can - or a variety from that region. We always have fun!
Côtes du Rhône AOC: The largest and most accessible entry point, producing fruity, everyday-drinking reds, whites, and rosés.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOC: The crown jewel of the region. These bold, complex wines are famously permitted to blend up to 13 different grape varieties.
Gigondas & Vacqueyras: Often referred to as "baby Châteauneuf." These mountainous, limestone-heavy areas produce muscular, aromatic, and deeply structured reds.
Tavel AOC: An elite, historically celebrated appellation exclusively dedicated to producing rich, full-bodied, and food-friendly dry rosés
