About us
Kintsugi is the art of purposefully breaking pottery and putting the pieces back together with powdered gold inside the cracked spaces. The fixed pottery ends up more beautiful than it was before it was broken.
We can likewise extend this philosophy to our souls. What is the purpose of beautiful art, or literature, or poetry if it is not for the transformation of our perspective and our behaviors?
In the modern age of the internet, we have access to almost all preserved works of quality throughout history. And yet we feel ever more distant from wisdom, meaning, beauty, wonder and enchantment. It's as if we have an infinite library, but with no librarian in sight to guide us through what is worthwhile paying attention to, and what has truly lasted the test of time.
This problem, however, is also an amazing opportunity. It's a call to an adventure to explore and discover the great people of the past, their struggles, their successes, their fruits. To emulate them, and to let them guide us through their world, so that it may enrich our own.
The more we move away from cynicism, irony and ridicule, the more we move toward depth and wisdom. Conventional views most often emphasize shortcomings, rather than merit. The pervasive view is one of scepticism, rather than introspection for the sake of building our character. We tend to be more skeptical of the works we engage with, than of our own intentions and our own hypocrisy.
And inside this beautiful struggle, between our self-centeredness and our desire to overcome it, is the hope of our transformation.
Because the only way to transform is to truly reflect on our most important values, with the intention of finding higher ones.
Aims of the group:
To engage with deep topics, classical and difficult literature, earnest poetry, and all other areas filled with meaning and beauty.
Not with some form of pretentiousness and elitism, but more like friendly children. Playful and curious.
And another important aim, naturally, is to connect with like-minded individuals and maybe support ourselves intellectually in our own endeavours and projects.
Not for the sake of building our image, but rather for the sake of breaking our soul and renewing it with gilded fillings.
If any of this feels relatable to you, feel free to join the group.
If it doesn't, what are you still doing here? It's getting kind of awkward.
