Cybersecurity Research Talk & Book Launch: From Day Zero to Zero Day

ABSTRACT
As part of the launch of “From Day Zero to Zero Day” (No Starch Press), the author, Eugene Lim, will introduce participants to the world of cybersecurity vulnerability research, the skills needed to enter the industry, and the career paths available for cybersecurity researchers. From threat intelligence to red teaming, there are many uses for in-depth security research beyond the rarefied world of “Zero Days”. Next, a QnA will be conducted with a panel comprising of security researchers Eugene Lim, Loke Hui Yi, and KK Tan, that will give the audience with an opportunity to ask questions about this topic. After the panel, a book signing will be conducted.

AUTHOR & PANELLIST
Eugene Lim — Security Researcher & White-hat Hacker
Eugene Lim (aka “Spaceraccoon”) is a security researcher and white-hat hacker who has reported hundreds of vulnerabilities across enterprise software, hardware, and cloud services. In 2021, he was one of five researchers selected from a pool of over one million for HackerOne’s H1-Elite Hall of Fame. His research has been featured at Black Hat and DEF CON and in WIRED and The Register.

PANELLISTS
KK Tan — Founder, counterShell
A latecomer to the vulnerability research and discovery field, KK spent some time in his previous employment in CSIT working in the area of vulnerability research. Besides focusing on specific technical areas (amongst other scattered random sidequests), he also dealt with researcher selection processes, and the benchmarking and review of technical discoveries. He currently is the founder of counterShell, a cybersecurity training company, that will offer vulnerability research courses #soon.

Loke Hui Yi — Vulnerability Management Lead, TikTok
Hui Yi is a cybersecurity professional with a well-rounded career that covers the entire security lifecycle. Her experience includes roles leading product security assessments, on the red team, and handling incident response on the blue team.

Now as the Vulnerability Management Lead, she uses her offensive mindset to improve TikTok's defenses. She proactively manages vulnerabilities and closes critical security gaps, giving her a complete view of how to protect the organization.

With strong technical skills, she builds and leads a technical team for vulnerability management. This team identifies and addresses threats, which better prepares TikTok for future risks.

MODERATOR
Ng Yoon Yik — Div0 Crew
Yoon Yik is one of Div0's regular crew members, currently co-leading Div0's Threat Modelling Quarter, and HackSmith. He is also one of the co-founders and advisor of the cybersecurity community in NTU. As a Global Cybersecurity Camp alumni, he is also keen to bring more students and youths into the the world of threat modeling.
