The Hogan is one of the last pristine sites when vis and currents are in your favor. It is an advanced dive that demands respect!

*Launching from Shelter Island, cuts off a lot of open water time and is closer by a couple miles. It's about 25 miles roundtrip. Be weight conscious.

Suggested donation for this event $65 due to increased distance and fuel costs.
It's at least 45 min each way.

*At 115'-120FSW+, it IS a rec dive but you're pushing it with 32%, even if you push your ppo up to 1.6, you may be task loaded with current, navigation and other stuff. 30% gives you a safety margin and max bottom time. Plan your dive according to your training, skills, kit and gas. There is no structure to use for navigation beyond the wreck. If you don't find the anchor line...

*2 up, 2 down.
We won't leave the boat unattended on top. When the first buddy group is at their safety stop, the 2nd team can head down (unless they want to wait for the report, like where the wolf eels are!). This adds a bit of time to the trip but past trips have experienced aggressive Mexican fisherman and had Mexican military patrol boats cruise around just far enough to the south to be in Mexican water but a bit intimidating, and with the smuggling going on, who wouldn't want to jack a perfectly good boat just sitting there!
*Also, the anchor line will be maxed out, keep the GPS on DTW (Distance to Waypoint) and be concerned if it fluctuates more than 30-40 feet.

*The Hogan is over 6 miles offshore, literally on the Mexico border and is quite remote. Each diver must have a SMB. Conditions can change quickly and currents, up top and down on the wreck, can shift quickly.
