Cracking the Culture Code: PCR and sequencing kefir!

Details
**This Wednesday DIYBio welcomes you to our Meetups at Hacklab.to!**
Curious about what’s in your kefir? Come join us for a hands-on PCR session where we’ll be extracting and amplifying DNA from kefir cultures to learn more about their microbial makeup. Whether you’re brand new to PCR or have run a few gels before, this session is designed to give you a practical, accessible intro to one of the most powerful tools in molecular biology.
We'll walk through the process step-by-step, and you'll have a chance to get involved at the bench. This week we will do the PCR, depending on the results, we will send some of the samples out for sanger sequencing, and we can analyse them next week. It’s a great way to learn basic molecular techniques while also geeking out about fermented foods and microbiomes. If you wanna bring your own fermented food in to type, contact the organizer (Madlab) to see what you need to do.
As always, we’ll also have open discussion and updates on other community projects happening at the lab. Come meet other biology-curious folks, share ideas, and see how you can get involved.
At DIYBio.to, our mission is to bridge the gap between biology and the community by making science hands-on, approachable, and meaningful. Our events are hosted in an inclusive space where curiosity is always welcome.
Check out our ongoing work and projects at diybio.to, and our outreach initiative at experiment.com/.
If you're interested in digging deeper, we’ll also have information about our more in-depth PCR course—designed to help anyone learn how to design, run, and interpret PCR experiments independently. No pressure, just options!
Membership: If you share our passion and vision, we invite you to become a member of hacklab.to and DIYBIO.to. Come visit us, and let's engage in a conversation about DIYBIO.to. Your journey into the world of DIY biology awaits!
Please remember to ask before taking someone’s photo. Respect others and our shared space. We are committed to maintaining a harassment-free environment for everyone. By attending, you agree to help us keep our community welcoming and respectful.
Donations welcome to keep our space going and filled with all the kits and equipment needed for community biology projects!
