What we’re about
Greetings,
Message from Previous Organizer: Hello Meetup World! My name is Joe. I'm a 36-year-old "newbie" to the D.M.V area, I recently moved here from Florida to pursue a career in Software Development, and while my career is still in the process of taking off, I've come to truly appreciate the atmosphere and people here in the D.M.V. area!
I enjoy socializing and making new friends of all backgrounds. I'm a true believer that no matter your race, age, gender, religion, sexual-orientation or political views etc., that the majority of people are good-natured, so why not step out of our comfort zones & stop staring at our phones and actually socialize with one another while having fun over live games of chess!
My initial intentions for this meetup were just to enjoy the fun of live chess games while attempting to enhance my social activities, however I also hope that this meetup can allow for a wide array of diverse people coming together to experience positive interactions, new connections & genuine friendships.
Chess most definitely is a fun game, however I must state that Safety, Respect, Tolerance and being a Good-Sport is always the primary objective, so if anyone does decide to show up, I kindly ask to please respect all people, be tolerant of all people, and always keep safety and friendliness the main goal, even more so then scoring a checkmate or a chess victory. Please always strive to be a good person and a good sport if you decide to come out and play!
I own only a single tournament-style chess-set, along with a chess timer. I enjoy both timed and un-timed games. Please feel free to bring along any chess equipment if you have any.
Also please note that although I've been playing chess for a long time, I've never received formal chess training and I simply play chess for the fun and competitiveness of the game. My rating tends to fluctuate and I'm far from being a Grandmaster, so players of all skill levels are always welcome & encouraged to join!
I have not finalized a consistent meetup location yet, but I'll provide location details for each upcoming event. I'm open to meeting in most places in the D.M.V. area, so please do not hesitate to offer any location suggestions!
Finally, and once again I would like to mention that safety, respect, and tolerance are paramount. I kindly ask everyone to be respectful to all people and to always remain a good sport. GG (Good Game) to all my future D.M.V. friends and chess players!
