Docker Store & Oracle DB and Building a Cloud Native Security Service
Details
Schedule
6:30 - 7:00 - Social / Food & Drinks (Stop by Codefresh booth to discuss Docker, containers, CI/CD and for some swag!)
7:00 - 7:45 - Leveraging the Docker Store with Oracle, including the Oracle Database by Jon Reeve and Gerald Venzl
Oracle recently announced availability of its flagship software on the Docker Store at DockerCon. In this talk, we’ll explore what this means for developers, including a demonstration of spinning up images from the Docker store in Oracle Container Cloud Service. We’ll cover a high level summary of Database best practices in Docker, and how to take advantage of the Oracle images on the Docker Store, and look at some of Oracle’s other ongoing work and contribution to the container community CNCF and Kubernetes.
7:45 - 8:30 - Cloud Native Security Service with Docker by Yong Tang
In this talk, we share our experience of building up ActiveTrust Cloud, which is a cloud native security service provided by Infoblox. The service is deployed with Docker, Mesos/Kubernetes, and CoreDNS. It is a customer-facing, multi-tenant, and globally available service that helps customers defending against various Internet attacks.
The global availability of the service is achieved through Anycast so that all customers only need to access one IP address across different regions. Deploying Anycast turns out to be a challenge because of the limitations on certain clouds. We overcome those limitations through containerization of different components with Docker.
We also share our experiences in container orchestration, container networking, load balancing, and service registration & discovery. We use a simplified architecture for container networking, and the service registration & discovery is done through CoreDNS. The overall design have helped our deployed service with improved elasticity, ease of use, and lowered maintenance cost.
8:30 - 9:00 - Networking / Wrap up
We look forward to seeing you there!
About the Speakers:
Gerald Venzl is a Senior Principal Product Manager for Oracle. During his career he has worked as a Developer, DBA, Performance Tuner, Software Architect, Consultant and Enterprise Architect prior to his current role. This allowed Gerald to live several different lives in the IT sector, providing him with a solid understanding of the concerns in those individual areas while gaining a holistic view overall. In his current role, Gerald focuses on evangelizing how to build systems that provide flexibility yet still meet the business needs.
Jon Reeve, Senior Director of Product Management, Oracle, owns product management for Oracle’s container management solutions. He has served in numerous product and leadership roles at companies such as StackEngine, Hyper9, SolarWinds, SMARTS, EMC and VMTurbo. Having previously served as VP of Product for StackEngine, he was responsible for the company’s flagship container management product, Container Application Center. His experience spans more than 20 years across computer networking, systems management, virtualization, cloud and container technologies, helping numerous start-ups and established companies generate market traction. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Computer Networking from the University of Durham (UK).
Yong Tang is a Principal Software Engineer at the CTO Office in Infoblox Inc. He leads the development effort of ActiveTrust Cloud, a containerized secure DNS SaaS service provided by Infoblox. He also works on CoreDNS for Infoblox. CoreDNS is an open source project recently accepted by CNCF for DNS based service registration & discovery. Before joining Infoblox, he spent years in ThreatTrack Security developing Anti-Virus engine, after obtained his PhD in Computer Science for network security at the University of Florida. Yong Tang is currently a maintainer/committer of Docker, SwarmKit, and CoreDNS, and a contributor of various open source projects in container, big data, and cloud.
