ELK with Docker, and Kubernetes for .NET Developers

Details

With containers being all the rage now, our December meetup will have a strong focusing on both Docker and Kubernetes! We have two talks - starting off with a brief introduction to Docker and using it to quickly spin up the ELK Stack locally, with plenty of live demos! This will then lead on nicely to Shahid's talk on taking Docker a step further and managing your container orchestration at scale in the cloud!

ELK Stack with .NET and Docker

Docker can be a very powerful tool even if only used for local development. The ability to quickly install, teardown, and re-create various 3rd-party components via a single command is extremely compelling. In this talk, I'll be giving a very brief introduction to Docker as a pre-requisite to Shahid's Kubernetes talk, and I'll also demo spinning up Elastic Search and Kibana containers using Docker-Compose. We'll then use LINQPad to demo writing to Elastic Search from .NET using Serilog, and finally visualising the data in the Kibana front end.

Kubernetes for .net developers
Shahid Iqbal

To paraphrase a famous internet quote, "Kubernetes is eating the world". Everyone seems to be talking about Kubernetes with companies seemingly tripping over themselves to support Kubernetes. In this talk we'll introduce Kubernetes, discuss the key concepts of the platform, its high-level architecture and how to get a Kubernetes cluster up and running in minutes. We'll talk about and demo (hopefully!) deploying .NET applications to Kubernetes and we'll finish with a discussion of the future where you can deploy both legacy and modern .NET applications to the same platform.
