Mini Hackathon
Details
IMPORTANT! Filling in a registration form is required for this event. Please read below. Currently we have a lot more RSVPs than forms filled in! 🙁
This month, we'll be taking a break from our usual "talk" format, and attempting a virtual mini hackathon!
We'll be following a similar format to the MiniHack meetup, where everyone will be split into small virtual teams (using Zoom breakout rooms) to build something - followed by each team demoing what they've created afterwards.
The organisers of the MiniHack event, Kevin and Paul, have also kindly agreed to join us as guest judges.
We need to start planning the teams - so whilst normally, you can just (virtually) show up - instead, for this event, we need to plan the teams in advance. So if you’d like to join in, please fill in the following form:
https://forms.gle/h4WwEuv1jgH7LjKu5.
Note that submitting the form is telling us that you will be attending, and we should assign you to a team. If you fill it in, and find your situation changes - please let us know as soon as possible, so we can shift the teams around.
A few small points about the event…
- As usual, we’ll be using Zoom, and we’ll leverage Zoom’s “breakout rooms” functionality for each team.
- As this is a .NET meetup - the primary platform should obviously be .NET. But which .NET language the teams decide to use is totally up to you. If you have a preference to use a particular .NET language, then please let us know. You will however be judged if you choose VB.NET! 😉 (j/k (ish))
- Each team needs to present their creation at the end, so at least one member of the team will need to be willing to present. One of the form questions will allow you to let us know your comfort level with this, and we’ll arrange the teams accordingly.
- We'll create GitHub repos for each team before the event, and add team members as contributors. You can use this to help collaborate during the event with your team members. They’ll initially be private repos - and only be made public after the event if all team members consent. No pressure whatsoever for these to become public.
- There will be prizes! NewOrbit have very generously agreed to award each member of the winning team a £25 Amazon gift voucher! 🎉
- We’ll be welcoming guest judges Kevin Smith and Paul Michaels from the UK Minihack meetup to help us pick winner(s)!
There’s a new Slack channel for discussions around this: #mini-hack-event-sept-2022.
If you’re joining in - it’s recommended that you join that Slack and turn notification on for that channel.
