What we’re about
What our group is about: Humanity’s 21st century challenge is to meet the needs of all in a fair, equitable and sustainable way. 20th century economic theories were grounded in the idea of economic growth, but endless growth is not sustainable. Simply put, more people in more countries wanting more resources will lead to economic and ecological collapse. This means rethinking the 20th century mindset that still drives the direction of economic policies in the 21st century. Doughnut Economics offers a new way forward.
This is an advocacy group for people who are concerned about the threat to the ecological balance presented by global warming and environmental degradation, and the the threat to the social balance presented by the relentless pursuit of GDP growth. Doughnut Economics Advocacy New Zealand (DEANZ) members are committed to work towards a sustainable ecological and cultural future by putting into action the concept of Doughnut Economics.
Who should join: People from any background are encouraged to join. People can:
• support us as members by attending our open meetups and events free of charge
• support us as advocates by volunteering to do lobbying, networking, administration, public relations, website management, community management OR participating in DEANZ projects as the Repair Cafes revitalisation, the development of the urban Composting Plan, and the development of the online Healthy Eating cookbook.
Fees: There is no charge to join.
Affiliations: DEANZ is not affiliated with any political party as we believe all political parties need to support the principles of Doughnut Economics. DEANZ is part of the worldwide Doughnut Economics movement.
