Meet Garden to Table's CEO, Ani Brunet

Garden to Table is NZ's leading food education programme in close to 200 primary and intermediate schools around the country. The focus of the programme is to both inspire and equip schools with everything they need to empower their students to learn to grow, harvest, prepare and share great fresh kai. All kitchen and garden activities are linked to curriculum learning, so the programme teaches skills for learning, and skills for life.

The programme empowers kiwi kids to make a positive impact in their own health and well-being, and to understand where food comes from and to connect with nature. They experience first-hand the circular cycles of nature from growing and preparing fresh seasonal food, back to regenerating earth with composting and nurturing the gardens.

With a background in environmental law, community sustainability work in non-government organisations and a large council, Ani is in dream job as Garden to Table charitable Trust's new CEO. She started in January this year and is now fully immersed in this extremely enjoyable and positive work for children and their school communities.

She came into this role from the leadership team of the Waitangi Tribunal. Prior to that Ani has extensive leadership and operational experience across a broad range of school and community-centred sustainability programmes. She’s been involved in community gardens; composting and worm farming education in schools; youth waste minimisation education programmes, through to large scale community resilience programmes and climate change initiatives.

Ani is looking forward to discussing the impacts of the Garden to Table programme, and discussing the synergies shared with doughnut economics.

  As you drive along Khyber Pass Rd towards Newmarket, turn left into Grafton Street, and then immediately turn left again into the Wilson car park that fronts Kyber Pass Road. Park in any of the (many) spots that are marked ‘Reserved’. Note that there is no specific Ockham branding on them. You can park there for free. It is a 550m, seven minute walk from the car park down Kyber Pass Road to the Ockham Collective event space in the Hypatia building.
