What we’re about
Down Under Divers Club (DUDC) is the oldest continuously operating club in the country. We are an all volunteer group that promotes diver social, educational and charitable events. DUDC supports all local dive shops without competing with them. Membership is encouraged but not required. All new Open Water divers have a free one year membership!
Our members are passionate about diving and you will find Down Under Divers Club traveling to all corners of the world or simply enjoying a dive in a local quarry. Our purpose is to go diving, promote diving, learn more about diving, and then go diving some more.
What we do
• Monthly dinner meeting via ZOOM and at Dave and Buster’s on the second Tuesday of each month. Each meeting has a speaker to present something of interest to divers. Recent topics have included exotic trip reports, famous North Carolina wrecks, and even the mating rituals of lobsters!
• During the local dive season (May-September), we host a cookout at one of the nearby quarries. This year we will likely split the events between Fantasy Lake Scuba Park and Mystery Lake Scuba Park.
• Epic end of year Holiday extravaganza! Each December before the holidays, we gather at Devil’s Ridge Country Club for a fantastic evening of socializing, drinks, dinner, and door prizes.
• Annual Polar Bear Dive at a local quarry each January 1. This year’s event was featured on WRAL, ABC11, and in the News & Observer!
Workshops on various dive related topics. Past workshops have included Dive Computer Basics and tips on Underwater Photography.
• A few special social events are also organized each year.

See all- DUDC September Meeting: Minorities in Shark Sciences with Jasmin GrahamDave & Buster's Cary, Cary, NC
Down Under Divers Club (DUDC) is the largest and longest running independent scuba club in North Carolina, and supports all local dive shops. The DUDC has a monthly meeting at Dave & Busters in Cary, with topics on some aspect of diving, travel, safety or our water environment. You do not have to be a member to come!
So come join the Down Under Divers Club on September 9th at Dave & Buster’s in Cary! We’ll start gathering around 6:30 PM, giving you time to enjoy food, drinks, and connect with fellow divers. The meeting will officially begin at 7:15 PM with club updates and a presentation from our guest speaker Jasmin Graham!
In Graham's presentation, "Shark Science: Not just White Sharks and White Men," Graham will speak about the impossible pressures and systemic biases she faced in academia and her triumphant rise as leader of a thriving community of fellow BIPOC shark scientists. As the founder of Minorities in Shark Sciences, she discusses the role grassroots organizations can play in shifting the scientific culture. Graham also dives into the unique biology and ecology of sharks and their relatives. Touching on their primary threats, she unpacks why we need to move from fear to fascination if we are to protect sharks. Her talk will inspire future generations of scientists from diverse backgrounds to pursue careers in STEM fields and marine sciences.
We hope to see you there! Can’t attend in person? You can still join us via Teams and stay in the loop.
