What we’re about

We are an informal, sociable group for people who love to sew and make our own clothes. All skill levels, age, gender welcome! Learn new skills, make friends and wear clothes that fit and do not cost a fortune! Sewing can be such a solitary pursuit so it's great to meet other sewing enthusiasts who know what you are talking about and share your passion. We meet once a month and also offer several virtual events or one-off outings to museum or fabric shopping trips.
The Sewing Plans and Results virtual events are all about chatting via the comments: we don't meet up in person but instead use the page like a forum to exchange tips, ideas and news of our achievements in the 'Event Chat'. And photos! There are quite a few photo albums: please have a look for the topics and add your pictures to share.
Monthly meetings: we meet in the EV Delicatessen cafe around the corner from Southwark tube station: Look for a big Chef statue at the entrance to the cafe! Then you're in the right place. We'll be sitting at the biggest table with the best light.
Monthly meetings are great for hand sewing, asking advice, sharing sewing tips and anything else you want to use them for.
Check out the blog: we hope that lots of members contribute with a blog post or by commenting. Let us know what you find useful or if you want advice on how to post. Please take a look here: http://londondressmakersclub.blogspot.co.uk/

The Dressmakers Group will cover a variety of events including social monthly meetings, exhibition visits, sewalongs, fabric shopping/day trips, interesting talks, occasional group classes or demonstrations, and exchanging lots of sewing tips when we meet, and so much more. Sewing is fun!
Please note that events except for your first monthly Meetup (see below) is for paid up members only, or a small attendance fee per in-person event. The annual membership fee is £10 in cash in person (or £10.61 by PayPal). This is to cover the organiser's fee that Meetup charges us. The first evening at a monthly meeting is free so you can check out the group. If you want to attend an exhibition or similar with us, these visits are for paid up members. Please talk to Tash or myself, Giselle, if you are not sure about paying a full year's membership initially just yet.

NB
Some of us attended a one-day pattern course at Wendy Ward's MIY Studio in Brighton in Jan 2014. Here is what she wrote about the London Dressmakers Club:
