Philosophers think free will is important mainly because that if we don't have free will, then there is no moral responsibility, i.e. no one is responsible for or can be blamed for anything.
In this session we analyze Harry Frankfurt's famous work on Free Will --
Alternate Possibilities and Moral Responsibility where the conclusion is that moral responsibility does not require free will, contrary to the common belief.
He gave counter examples to the principle of alternative possibilities: a person is morally responsible for what he has done only if he could have done otherwise.
If such principle is false, i.e. moral responsibility does not require free will, then free will might no longer be important, and thus the problem of free will is "settled".
