FREE Happy Hour Mixer and Mingle at The Cold War Museum in Culver City.

Yes. There is a Cold War Museum in Culver City. It is called The Wende (pronounced “venda”), a German word meaning “turning point” or “change” that has come to describe the transformative period leading up to and following the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989

With a mission to preserve Cold War art, culture, and history from the Soviet Bloc countries, inspire a broad understanding of the period, and explore its enduring legacy. And is located in Culver City in a National Guard Armory building built in 1949 (yet more cold war tie in!!!)

Why are are we going as a meetup?

On Friday, October 26, 7 p.m. there is going to be a Curator's talk on "Culture and Power" with a subtitle of a discussion on "Art and Alcohol"

YES!!!!! From 6 to 8 p.m.: Drinks in the Garden. That's a Happy Two Hours!!!

Wait: It says the Meetup goes to 9.

Yes. The museum is open to 9 PM but drinks are to 8. Get there after 8 and you only the fabulous exhibits. BUT it does not end at 8 or 9. After the meetup (and drinks and art) we will go up two blocks for bites or drinks (you choose). We will split amount Bigfoot West, Oldfield's (drinks), Bamboo Caribbean Cuisine (with a bar), or Tara's Himalayan Cuisine (they have Yak!!!!). There should be a big crowd at the museum so it will be good to divide among these. They are 2 blocks north of The Wende (that means walking distance OR we can do a Bird armada.

Chief Curator Joes Segal will discuss the ideas of various modern philosophers, including Kant, Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, Foucault, Said, and Huntington, in an attempt to illuminate how they might or might not shed light on our current state of affairs.

The Museum does this twice a year. They are more than happy we are coming. Admission to the museum is normally free and this Happy Hour event is free too. However, if you want to bring a bottle of wine for the bar that's ok too and encouraged. After all . . . this will feed your comrades. And it will also make sure there is the wine you like!!!
