This month is especially for you! There is no Drupal or programming knowledge necessary to start diving into the world of Drupal so come out and learn something new. You can get a headstart at https://www.drupal.org/about If the talks this month are too beginner-level for you, consider coming for the community! The "living room" just outside the main room is available during the presentations for discussing anything Drupal and is a great place to find or give answers to specific questions. Our presentations will start with a series of quick beginner-oriented "lightning" talks and will be followed by a longer presentation that provides an introduction to the indispensable Views module. Lightning talks (exact topics subject to change): - What is Drupal? - Requirements & Installing Drupal 8 - Demo of Drupal 8 Core - Content Types and Fields - Blocks and Menus We are looking for lightning talk speakers! If you have previous Drupal experience and can present one of these lightning talks, please let us know at http://drupal.nyc/suggest or get in touch via Slack ( http://drupal.nyc/slack ) if you have any questions. This month's main presentation is: "Using Views: Starting off right" by Chris Porter There's no argument that the Views module is necessary for creating robust functionality on Drupal websites. But, due to it's highly configurable interface, it's easy to wind up in situations where you either don't know where to start, or start off totally wrong. This session will cover the basics of what exactly a View is, how to use the Views interface, some common use cases, and a couple of common design pitfalls that admins commonly run into and how to plan around them. Bio: A Drupal developer for over 15 years, Chris Porter has presented on various topics around application design using Drupal at multiple Drupalcons and camps around the world. "Views: from the ground up" is a semi-regular all-day training session offered at Drupalcons by Chris and his employer, The Northcross Group, a Portland, Maine based consultancy. ========== Meanwhile, we are always looking for speakers! Submit your suggestions at http://drupal.nyc/suggest !
