About us
The Durham Bug Club is for the curious, the playful, and the wonder-filled. We believe that joy, discovery, and connection are worth seeking simply for their own sake.
We gather to wander trails, parks, gardens, and wild corners of Durham in search of the tiny creatures that most people walk right past. Together we'll photograph insects, learn to identify them, share what we find, and celebrate the incredible diversity of life that exists just beneath our feet and above our heads.
This isn't a club for experts (though if you are one, please join us!)—it's for people who light up when they spot a dragonfly, get excited about a weird beetle, or can't help but stop and admire a spider web glittering in the morning sun.
Durham Bug Club is about curiosity without self-consciousness, learning through play, and finding delight in the world exactly as it is. Come as you are. Bring your camera/phone, your magnifying glass, your field guide, or just your sense of wonder.
Because sometimes happiness looks like standing in a meadow with friends, excitedly pointing at a leaf and saying: "Look at this tiny weird thing!"
