Don't give Trump the last say on AI! Letter writing party

Details
The house recently passed a bill that would ban states from regulating AI for ten years. Now it's before the Senate, and we have an opportunity to contact senators Ben Ray Lujan and Martin Heinrich and urge them to fight to protect democracy. Join us at Lucky Goose to brainstorm and collaborate on writing letters!
Most Americans are concerned about AI, and so are experts. AI could increase inequality, empower authoritarianism and even kill us all. AI progress is on track to exceed human capabilities before the bill expires. (And in some experts' views, much sooner.) Without effective regulation, this could spell disaster.
States like New Mexico are leading the way in AI regulation in the face of inaction from congress. Now, congress is threatening to hand full control to AI developers, with the bill banning states from "enforc[ing] any law...regulating artificial intelligence models, artificial intelligence systems, or automated decision systems."
In a small state like New Mexico, our voices are disproportionately impactful in the Senate. Let's make sure our senators know that AI must be guided by democratic consensus, not profit alone.
