What we're about

Hello there! πŸ‘‹ This meetup group focuses on cause areas and topics in the Effective Altruism and Rationality communities. Our events are done in a very casual dinner & discussion format, and are meant to be very beginner-friendly! - 2nd Wednesday: Book club!
- 3rd Wednesday: The AI / Nuclear / Existential Risks cause area

πŸ“š Bookclub - "How to Measure Anything" Chapters 1-8 by Douglas Hubbard

πŸ₯˜ Thanks to a grant from Open Philanthropy we are proud to be able to cover the costs of dinner for each attendee!

We can also cover the cost of buying the book! We have a WhatsApp discussion group going so RSVP early so we can add you!

For this rendition of the book club we'll be reading & discussion, "How to Measure Anything" by Douglas Hubbard. This book is highly rated in the EA / Rationality community as a great way to reduce perfectionism in your thinking about how to do good in the world.

From the book:

Anything can be measured. If a thing can be observed in any way at all, it lends itself to some type of measurement method. No matter how β€œfuzzy” the measurement is, it’s still a measurement if it tells you more than you knew before. And those very things most likely to be seen as immeasurable are, virtually always, solved by relatively simple measurement methods.

A PDF of the book is available online here but we also have grant funding to be able to reimburse people for purchasing a hardcopy or audiobook if you'd prefer!

We'll do this book over 2 months, so for June please come having read the first half of the book (Chapter 1-8).

Looking forward to seeing you and getting immersed in the world of measuring anything!
