A weak return gives the serving team exactly what they want: time to step in, set their feet, and attack the third shot. But a smart return — deep, high, and placed with purpose — buys you time to get to the kitchen and forces your opponent to hit up from a harder position.
Here’s the truth most beginners miss: you do not need a fancy return to win more points. You need a consistent, deep return that gives you time to move forward. Most beginner and intermediate players lose control of the rally because their return is too short, too rushed, or hit without a clear target. That is one of the fastest fixes in your whole game.
In this 60-minute class, PPR-certified coach AR Bell will walk you through:
- The simple return routine that helps you stay calm and ready before the serve
- How to return deep so you can get to the kitchen instead of getting stuck in transition
- Where to aim: middle, backhand side, and safer targets that reduce errors
- How to handle fast, deep, or awkward serves without panicking
- One simple return drill you can practice with a partner or ball machine
