As a first time experiment for our group, this ride will be a two-way radio guided "Talking Tour". Radios will be issued to first 14 riders to sign up and/or show up, any additional riders can "partner" or, if you wish, you can bring your own GMRS radio.
Meetup at the Merritt BART station at 10:04 and we head out right after introductions to tour these 14 parks in Oakland and Piedmont.

This will be a casual but intermediate 14 mile ride with some moderate climbing. We will most likely keep rolling through the parks at a slow pace, while the ride leader “Zookeeper“ transmits “fun facts“ regarding each park, run navigation (LOTS of turns), and announces road conditions. All participants may contribute “observations & quips” to the radio “traffic “. The radios will also help provide grouping integrity.
We may occasionally make very brief bathroom, photo op, and re-group stops. Most of this ride will be on quiet city streets and park paths with a few busy street crossings.
We will finish the ride up with a “Brown Bag” picnic lunch on the grass at the last park. Mandana Plaza Park was chosen for its proximity to dozens of food & beverage take out places within two blocks along Lakeshore Ave for riders preferring purchasing a lunch. Brown Baggers can watch over the bikes while you walk & grab your lunches from Arizmendi or several other places nearby, then rejoin the group in the park.
Leader welcomes “Roses & Thorns” regarding this experimental radio ride.
Ride Lunch Picnic is over around 1:04pm (Host's nap time).
After turning in radios riders can easily self-lead return to equidistant 19th St BART or around Lake Merritt to Merritt BART each within an easy 10 minute flat ride.
Please dress appropriately for the forecast and bring water, snacks, and/or money for our post-ride lawn picnic.
