On a break before his last semester of medical school, Ernesto "Che" Guevara (Gael García Bernal) travels with his friend Alberto Granado (Rodrigo de la Serna) from Brazil to Peru by motorcycle. The two men soon witness the great disparities in South America, encountering poor peasants and observing the exploitation of labor by wealthy industrialists. When they reach a leper colony in Peru, Ernesto's values have changed so much that he sides with the sufferers, forgetting his own comfort.

Durante un descanso antes de su último semestre de la escuela de medicina, Ernesto “Che” Guevara (Gael García Bernal) viaja con su amigo Alberto Granado (Rodrigo de la Serna) desde Brasil hasta Perú en motocicleta. Pronto, ambos presencian las grandes desigualdades de América del Sur, se encuentran con campesinos pobres y observan la explotación laboral por parte de industriales adinerados. Cuando llegan a una colonia de leprosos en Perú, los valores de Ernesto han cambiado tanto que se pone del lado de quienes sufren, olvidando su propia comodidad.
