FRIDAY WALK: ALFRISTON-BERWICK CIRCULAR (5.4 MILES)
Details
Hi all. This circular route is a mix of downs and fields with great views over the Sussex countryside. Starting in Alfriston, we climb steadily up onto the South Downs Way before dropping down towards Alciston, following the old coach road (track) to Berwick and returning to Alfriston along the Vanguard Way.
This route has one long hill up and one steep hill down; the rest is undulating. It is mostly grass or track but we may encounter some mud in a couple of sections.
If the weather is fine and warm enough we could stop en-route at the Cricketers Arms in Berwick to enjoy a drink/light lunch in their pub garden. If it's too cold or dull we will head straight back to Alfriston where there are a few cafes for anyone who can stay a while.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome and I walk with a friendly dog called Josie.
The free carpark in Alfriston is 3 hours max, which won't be enough if we go to the pub, but there's free roadside parking on North Road, Kings Ride and The Furlongs. We will meet on the triangle at the top of the High Street in front of Ye Olde Smugglers Inne. Please allow 10 mins to walk from your car and be booted & ready to set off at 1030.
Satnavs in Alfriston you can use are:
The Furlongs BN26 5XS
North Road BN26 5XE
Kings Ride BN26 5XP
Ye Old Smugglers Inne, BN26 5UE
If you are unable to attend on the day, please call or text me on 07764 677363 in case I can't access MeetUp.
Thanks Alison
