FRIDAY WALK: ALFRISTON-WILMINGTON CIRCULAR (4.5 MILES)
Details
This walk will be led by David Bosworth
Hi all. This is an easy walk from Alfriston with a moderate hill up at the start then a flat amble across fields and along the Cuckmere River. We get a good view of the Long Man at Wilmington, visit an ancient tree (reputedly as old as Jesus), and the scenery is lovely.
We can make a short stop at the Church of the Good Shepherd, the smallest church in Sussex and one of the smallest in England. It's a rather special place.
This is a relatively short walk (4.5 miles) and no coffee stops until we get back to Alfriston but we will take a short banana-break in Wilmington churchyard so bring a drink and snack.
Well behaved dogs are welcome. The fields are mostly arable but we may encounter some livestock along the riverbank.
The free carpark in Alfriston is 3 hours max, which should be long enough for this walk, but maybe not enough if you are staying for coffee after. Alternatively there's free roadside parking on North Road, The Furlongs or Kings Ride. We will meet at Market Cross, ie the triangle at the top of the High Street in front of Ye Olde Smugglers Inne. Please allow 10 mins to walk to the meeting point to set off promptly at 1030.
Satnavs in Alfriston you can use are:
The Furlongs BN26 5XS
North Road BN26 5XE
Kings Ride BN26 5XP
Ye Old Smugglers Inne, BN26 5UE
If it's wet we will cancel the day before. If you are unable to attend on the day, please call or text David on 07379 910950 in case we can't access MeetUp.
Thanks Alison
