Gunnamatta to Cape Schanck Circuit. Approx. 16km (moderate)
Details
Join me for a stunning coastal hike to start the New Year. Beginning at Gunnamatta SLSC, we’ll head towards Cape Schanck.
Depending on the tide, we’ll either:
- follow approximately 3km of coastline to Fingal Beach, then climb around 440 steps to the clifftop for spectacular views across the Peninsula, or
- take the inland track if coastal conditions aren’t suitable.
On arrival at Cape Schanck, we’ll explore the area before stopping for lunch on the grass at the Lighthouse Reserve.
For the return journey to Gunnamatta, we’ll avoid the high tide and take alternative tracks to those used in the morning.
Approximately 6km of the walk will be on sand.
Important safety note:
It may be a warm day and the water could be tempting, however Gunnamatta Surf Beach is one of the most dangerous beaches in the state. There are plenty of safer swimming options elsewhere on the Peninsula.
Please do not RSVP to any Eastern Hiking & Adventure event unless you are fully committed to attending. It is your responsibility to check the date, distance, and difficulty of the walk before RSVPing. Members who frequently withdraw at the last minute, fail to show up, arrive without being on the "going" list, or behave disrespectfully towards leaders or fellow members will be asked to leave the walk and may be removed from the group. All leaders are unpaid volunteers who invest a great deal of their own time to plan and research each walk. Their efforts deserve respect and consideration. Organisers do their best to minimise waitlists where possible, and priority will be given to reliable members who attend regularly and contribute positively to the group experience.

A good level of fitness, experience in bush and beach hiking and the ability to maintain a good steady pace is required to complete this hike.
What to bring:
