Beltzville Big Day of Birding
Details
It's World Migratory Bird Day on Saturday, May 9th!!! Join avid birder and park naturalist Rob Bergstresser for the 1st Annual Beltzville Big Day of Birding! Beltzville State Park is Carbon County's premier birding hotspot, hosting more recorded bird species than any other location in the county! The second week of May is peak migration in the region. Whether you're new to birding, or a veteran birder, come on out to the park and help us try and locate as many bird species as we can in one day, within the park boundaries!
Birding "teams" are encouraged, as this will be a mainly self-guided event, although you are welcome to join the park naturalist for a 90-minute birding survey around the Day Use Area starting at 7:30am. We will be meeting at the Environmental Interpretive Center if you are interested in joining. Registration is not required. (There is no official start or end time for the count on May 9th, as long as all counting of bird species is done between 12am and 11:59pm on May 9th).
If you are organizing a birding team or going solo, you can pick-up a birding checklist in the park office starting Friday, May 1st (office hours are 8am-4pm M-F). All completed birding checklists are to be dropped off at the park office or emailed to the park naturalist (rbergstres@pa.gov) no later than May 12th.
