Calling all fellow booklovers and nature nerds: What is a solstice and why do we care so much? From ancient myths to fairytales to the astronomers of today, there’s always a special magic credited to the solstices when they roll around. On the Saturday before this year’s summer solstice, find out why with a state park naturalist as we hike through Tohickon Valley Park. We will discuss what a solstice is, what it has meant historically, and how it shows up in literature and folklore.
For this hike, we will be covering around 3 miles round trip of rocky, uneven, and sometimes steep terrain. Please wear appropriate footwear for hiking and bring water and sun protection. For any questions, reach out to Annastasia Soto at [annsoto@pa.gov](mailto:annsoto@pa.gov).
Tolkien Talks are hikes we do once a season where we discuss natural phenomena and focus on how they show up in literature and history, especially through the lens of J.R.R Tolkien and his works.
