Feel like going on an adventure? Join a state park naturalist on the Delaware Canal towpath for this year’s Hobbit Hike, while we talk about the changing autumn season and how humans in prehistoric times began keeping track of such changes. We will also talk about how seasonal folklore and practices show up in the modern era, especially through the lens of J.R.R. Tolkien’s writing.
For this hike, we will be covering between 3-4 miles on mostly flat ground while we head north along the towpath. We will reach Homestead Coffee Roasters and General Store a little under 2 miles into the hike and make a stop for coffee, tea, etc.(elevensies, if you will). From there, we will walk the approximate 2 miles back to the park office. Hobbit attire is welcome for this trek! For any questions about this program, please reach out to Annastasia Soto at annsoto@pa.gov .
To bring: Please wear comfortable walking shoes and layers for the fall weather. Bring your wallet if you would like to make a purchase at Homestead when we stop.
Restrooms: A flush restroom is available by the park office at the start of the hike. There is also a restroom located in Homestead General Store, about 2 miles into the hike where we will stop.
