Description
For those EBikers who own a full suspension MTB bike and would like to ride some single-track dirt trails, this ride is for you. Calero Reservoir Trail is a purpose-built MTB trail for Intermediate to Advance riders. It is a mix of single track, fire roads and fun rock gardens, with a couple shallow water crossings, and one significant climb but nothing too challenging. The ride is 17.5 miles RT, 9.5 miles to Bald Peak, 8 miles back down returning to the parking lot along the reservoirs edge. Total Elevation is 2100 ft. This park allows Class 1 & 2 EBikes, helmets are mandatory. Knee pads suggested depending on your skill level. Bike traffic is one-way for the first 5 miles and last 3 miles, but hikers and horses may be encountered from either direction. Bring water, sunscreen, a picnic lunch, and a basic repair kit.
We will meet in the parking lot near the bathrooms around 9:45am. Ride starts at 10:00am. Note that this is not the entrance near the reservoir. It is the Rancho San Vicente entrance parking lot along McKean Rd. to the North of the reservoir. The first segment is 5 miles on Lisa Killough trail which is a mix of fire roads and single track. The second segment is a 1 mile climb up Cottle wall to a rest area with picnic table. From there we ride the remaining 3.5 miles up to Bald Peak which is flowy single track and fire roads near the top. We return back the same way to the main intersection and ride along the reservoirs edge on fire roads and single track before reaching the parking lot. Bring a picnic lunch and plenty of liquids to drink.
