ART BASICS
5 week short course
Thursday evenings, 6.30 - 8pm
18th, 25th September, 2nd, 9th & 16th October
£49 for the five week course / £12 for a single lesson
Our Art Basics sessions are tailored to those who have not picked up a pencil in years, individuals who wish to reignite their creativity and those who would like a refresher. The classes begin with a short presentation before a structured activity takes place using specific materials.
This half term we will explore a range of painting and drawing methodologies and you will be shown how to successfully use a variety of wet and dry media. By taking part on this course, you will improve your observational drawing skills, you will gain a better understanding of how to use watercolours, acrylic paints and mixed-media processes, and you will have participated in a variety of mindful activities. All materials, refreshments and car parking is provided, so all you need to bring is yourself!
Session One: 18th September - Acrylic paint & landmarks
Spend a gentle evening in the studio exploring different acrylic paint techniques and produce your own artwork depicting an iconic landscape scene. Bring along a photograph taken during your summer holidays or refer to our range of photographic resources.
Session Two: 25th September - Shading pencils & mechanical elements
Develop your understanding of shading pencil techniques and create an observational study on cartridge paper focusing on this unqiue theme. During this taught class, you will learn about line and tonal variation, and you will have a brilliant drawing to take home!
Session Three: 2nd October - Reptiles and amphibians with ink and wax resist
Discover the world of vibrant and colourful drawing inks and develop your understanding of wax resist using crayons and oil pastels. During this class we will observe tropical frogs and unsual reptiles, and you will create an eye-catching final piece to take home.
Session Four: 9th October - Fluffy and furry animals in charcoal and soft pastels
Step into the studio and enjoy an evening learning about charcoal techniques and experiementing with pastel pencils on black card. You will be guided through how to create the illusion of fur, and you will practise using chalk to create the striking eyes and facial features of your animal.
Session Five: 16th October - Watercolours & a seasonal still life
Embrace Autumn and take time to observe lots of natural forms relating to the change of season. During this class you will have the opportunity to explore watercolour application and you will use watercolour pencils to add further detail to your artwork.
