What we’re about

Edge Improv Lab: improv workshops in small groups. We welcome everyone with or without improv experience!

We offer both beginner-level classes and advanced workshops.

Our beginner-level evening classes are designed to help participants let go of self-judgement and self-doubt, stop overthinking, be playful, laugh, and connect to others. All while learning the basic building blocks of improv theater! Nobody is expected to be fast or witty, and in fact improv is a perfect activity for an introvert.

Our advanced workshops take place on weekends. They are are meant for those of you eager to build up your improv skills. We offer intensive 6h workshops that will challenge you but also give you enough space and time to experiment, explore, and play within a particular topic. Take a look at our past events to get an idea.

Our groups are always limited to 12 in order to provide each of you with enough stage time and individual attention. You can expect a safe space, a supportive atmosphere for experimentation, and the guidance of highly experienced teachers. We do everything in English - but your English doesn’t have to be perfect; a communicative level is enough.

We are Edyta and Georgi, two passionate improvisers and unapologetic coffee addicts. Beside these workshops we perform as part of The Blue Couch improv group and organize community improv events under The Mind Meld.

Welcome to Edge Improv Lab! 🤩

    Film in Improv
    with Edyta Werpachowska

Step into the director’s chair and bring your improv to life through the lens of a filmmaker! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll explore how cinematic techniques - like framing, camera angles, and focus - can add depth, drama, and flair to your scenes. We’ll experiment with live “zoom-ins” and “close-ups” to heighten emotion, shift perspective, and create bold, visually striking stage moments.

    About the teacher

Edyta is an improviser with over eight years of experience. Her improv adventure started in Warsaw, Poland, with Wigwam Impro Theater. After moving to Munich, she became a regular performer with The Blue Couch improv group, where she performs in longform shows. In 2024, her love for improv and connecting with people led her to co-found Edge Improv Lab. The same year, she co-founded The Mind Meld, a platform that brings together English-speaking improv communities.

    Leaning into Contrast
    with Georgi Chulkov

In life we understandably want to reduce tension and resolve conflict, but on stage it is often more useful to do the opposite - to lean into it and heighten it. In this workshop we will deliberately create contrast and double down on it as a way to heighten the emotion of a scene. Without reason or justification, we can follow the contrast to its peak, and only resolve it at the very end. It's a great way to put focus on the emotion and relationship between two characters in a scene that would otherwise seem to be about nothing.

    About the teacher

Georgi has been passionate about improv since discovering it in 2017. He founded The Blue Couch improv group a year later, where he serves as creative director and regularly performs longform shows. He has had the opportunity to learn from improv legends including Susan Messing, Inbal Lori, Joe Bill, and others. In 2024 he co-founded Edge Improv Lab in order to share his experience with others in Munich, as well as The Mind Meld, a platform that enables improvisers from different local groups to play together. You can also find him every year at the Sofia Improv Festival.
