with Alec Shea and Georgi ChulkovVoice-based sound effects can add a lot to a scene, whether it's fun, realism, or a plot twist. Using sounds is a wonderful way to support yourself or your partner from within a scene, or other players from the side.
The first half of the workshop will focus on the types of sound effects you can use in an improv scene and when to use each, and encourage you to be silly and creative and experiment with what your voice can do. The second half of the workshop, we will push this vocal experimentation further and focus on how we can apply it to characters. Learn about how your voice works and how it can be manipulated to create human and non-human characters, give your characters specific characteristics, or have them experience a unique situation.
We will discuss the theory and mechanics behind these techniques, then experiment with putting them into practice.
Suitable for players on all levels.
Alec Shea is a professional voice actor, voice director, and sound designer with experience in performing character voices and vocal sounds, directing voice talent, and designing sound effects across video games, animation, film, radio and more.

https://buytickets.at/edgeimprovlab/1262811Objective & Obstacle
with Georgi ChulkovWhat does your character want, and why? Why don't they already have it?
A character objective is extremely useful! It helps the improviser move the scene along its natural direction rather than inventing a plot or immediately going into conflict. Relationships become easier, and decisions more consistent.
An obstacle counteracts the objective, raises the stakes, and creates inner tension. Objectives and obstacles each add an additional layer of depth to a character.
In this workshop you will have the opportunity to explore objectives and obstacles from several angles. We will start with straightforward physical objectives, then move on to realistic wants and needs and the relationships they can create. We will follow up with externally imposed obstacles, then intrinsic obstacles, until finally we attempt complex group scenes with multiple intertwining objectives and obstacles.
The workshop will be highly practical, leaning heavily on scene work and sidecoaching. You will certainly have a lot of stage time!

Suitable for players with some improv experience. Perfect if you already feel comfortable in simple scenes and you are ready for a challenge!

... and using other imaginary objects
with Atanas DimitrovObject work. Fun to watch, yet challenging to perform!
Object work is an essential part of the toolset of a good improviser. As sets and props are typically nonexistent in improv, object work allows a performer to establish and interact with imaginary objects in a scene, and in doing so to help the audience visualize the environment. This adds depth and realism, making scenes more immersive and credible.
In this workshop we will focus on:
- understanding the importance of objects and how they improve believability
- creating, manipulating, and working with objects
- developing physical awareness of the environment
- maintaining consistency and learning how to be even more expressive in our physical portrayal
- playing scenes with strong focus on objectsLevel
Suitable for players of all levels.
About the teacher
Atanas is an experienced improviser known particularly for his impressive object work. He had his very first taste of improv in 2013 when he completed a five-month course of improv, two of which were focused exclusively on non-verbal play! Since the beginning of 2019 he has been playing non-stop in Munich. Today he performs longform shows regularly with The Blue Couch improv group, and is an active member of the Rice Cookie Improv community.

with Georgi ChulkovThe third edition of Truthful Vulnerable Scenes is a 4-session 24-hour workshop on playing improv from a place of authenticity and vulnerability. It is based on building trust and connection within a small group.
We will begin by establishing a strong truthful connection between all participants. We will get to know each other on a very personal level and build trust, so that we can enter the slightly uncomfortable, immensely liberating world of true vulnerability.
We will then create scenes from a place of powerful, truthful emotions, drawn from our own experiences of the past and present. In that way will blur the distinction between actor and character, and infuse our scenes with a raw emotional charge.
We will specifically practice setting, communicating, and respecting precise physical boundaries, so that we can portray deeply personal or intimate relationships while respecting everyone's individual limits. For those who are comfortable and willing to try, we will introduce touch as a powerful improv tool to convey emotion and relationship.
The workshop has a strong vibe of trust, connection and warmth. We will provide a safe space with an uncompromising respect for boundaries. You are always welcome to step out of a particular scene or exercise if you feel uncomfortable. Nevertheless please note that you are ultimately responsible for setting your own boundaries and for your own wellbeing.
Level
Suitable for players with some improv experience. It is enough if you feel comfortable playing in simple scenes. That said, this workshop demands a certain mindset. In particular:
- You are open to being vulnerable and sharing personal experiences (of your choice and to your preferred extent) with people who you may not necessarily know well.
- You come from a place of non-judgement and acceptance.
- You seek to connect with others rather than impress them.
- You are open to experiencing strong emotions - positive or negative - and are not here "just for fun". In this work fun is a side effect, but should not be the goal.
- You commit to the complete confidentiality of anything that another participant shares with you ("everything stays in the room").
- You commit to respect the personal boundaries of all other participants at all times, on and off the stage. If you are unsure about whether this workshop is a good choice for you, you are welcome to reach out to Georgi or Edyta. We're happy to answer your questions!
