The third edition of Truthful Vulnerable Scenes is a 4-session 24-hour workshop on playing improv from a place of authenticity and vulnerability. It is based on building trust and connection within a small group.

We will begin by establishing a strong truthful connection between all participants. We will get to know each other on a very personal level and build trust, so that we can enter the slightly uncomfortable, immensely liberating world of true vulnerability.

We will then create scenes from a place of powerful, truthful emotions, drawn from our own experiences of the past and present. In that way will blur the distinction between actor and character, and infuse our scenes with a raw emotional charge.

We will specifically practice setting, communicating, and respecting precise physical boundaries, so that we can portray deeply personal or intimate relationships while respecting everyone's individual limits. For those who are comfortable and willing to try, we will introduce touch as a powerful improv tool to convey emotion and relationship.

The workshop has a strong vibe of trust, connection and warmth. We will provide a safe space with an uncompromising respect for boundaries. You are always welcome to step out of a particular scene or exercise if you feel uncomfortable. Nevertheless please note that you are ultimately responsible for setting your own boundaries and for your own wellbeing.

Level

Suitable for players with some improv experience. It is enough if you feel comfortable playing in simple scenes. That said, this workshop demands a certain mindset. In particular:
- You are open to being vulnerable and sharing personal experiences (of your choice and to your preferred extent) with people who you may not necessarily know well.
- You come from a place of non-judgement and acceptance.
- You seek to connect with others rather than impress them.
- You are open to experiencing strong emotions - positive or negative - and are not here "just for fun". In this work fun is a side effect, but should not be the goal.
- You commit to the complete confidentiality of anything that another participant shares with you ("everything stays in the room").
- You commit to respect the personal boundaries of all other participants at all times, on and off the stage.

About the teacher

Georgi has been passionate about improv ever since discovering the artform in 2017. He founded The Blue Couch improv group a year later, where he serves as creative director and regularly performs longform shows. He is a frequent workshop facilitator at the Rice Cookie Improv community in Munich. In 2024 he co-founded Edge Improv Lab in order to share his knowledge and experience with the world. You can also find him every year at the Sofia Improv Festival.

Important things to know

Please bring non-slip socks or a second pair of shoes. We are not allowed to use our street shoes in the venue, and the floor can be slippery. We highly recommend comfortable clothes which allow for movement and possibly sitting on the floor.

We ask that you do not take photos or videos during the session.

The workshop is in English.

You may cancel for a full refund until two weeks before the start. Cancellation after that date is not possible.
