Caroline Wilkinson is Professor of Craniofacial Identification at the University of Dundee. She originates from North Yorkshire and has been living in Scotland for the last 8 years. She has worked in the area of craniofacial identification for approximately 20 years and has depicted the faces of famous historical figures, such as St Nicolas, J.S. Bach, Robert Burns and Richard III.

Caroline has qualifications in Anatomy, Art and Anthropology and she is a great proponent of cross-disciplinary skills, research and education. Her work is exhibited in museums across the world and you may have seen some of her work on TV programmes such as History Cold Case, Meet the Ancestors, Face of Britain andMummies Unwrapped.

Talk

Caroline will discuss how we depict faces of the dead, both within a forensic setting and also archaeological investigation. She will address why this work is necessary, how reliable it is and when it might be applicable. She will also show examples of famous historical depictions, such as Richard III and Robert Burns alongside some more contemporary forensic cases.

People can ask questions about the process and the accuracy and they will discover how art and science skills can work together to inform, educate and investigate.
