Languages and Beer

How it works: When you sign up to the event, you will be prompted to write down which language(s) you would like to practice and what your native language is. Based off this information, I will set up language-specific tables at the meetup. For example, if you would like to practice English, you will sit at the English table. It is also appreciated if you sit at the table of your native language. The tables will be clearly marked with flags. And then talk to people in that language! It's that simple.
If you would like to practice multiple languages, feel free to bounce around! If you are worried that you won't know what to talk about, I will have some conversation prompts available. There is only one rule at Languages and Beer (other than basic social etiquette of course 😂): you can only speak the language of the table you are sitting at! People attending this event should be at least a little bit conversational in their target language, otherwise you might find yourself not having a great time.
Languages and Beer takes place every Friday from 7:00 until 11:00. You don't need to stay the whole time, but please show up at 7:00 out of respect for everyone. If you can't come until later, please send me a direct message or comment on the event page. Languages and Beer will always take place at Dewey's, unless specifically stated otherwise. You will be required to purchase at least one drink (doesn't need to be alcoholic) out of respect for the venue. It is more convenient to take public transit to the U of A campus (and safer if you are drinking). If you do have to drive, unfortunately the closest free parking is on Saskatchewan Drive.
One last thing: if you say you are attending, please attend. I understand if you are unable to come, but please at least let me know beforehand. Being a no show is not cool, and it messes up the organization and flow of the event. Please be respectful. If you no show two times, I will remove you from the group. This behavior is unacceptable. Please respect the fact that people are taking time out of their day for this and expecting you to be there.
If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a direct message or post a comment. I'm looking forward to seeing you there!
