Topics for this month are:

  • Locally Running AI Models
Running AI models on your own hardware sounds like a great way to save on costs and improve privacy in theory… But in practice they're kind of terrible compared to models hosted in enormous data centres. In this 30-minute session, we'll follow one Jobberino's quest to build a useful, private local assistant powered by open models. Something actually capable of handling small, everyday tasks without sending your data anywhere. Along the way we'll get into a routing architecture that dispatches requests to different local models under the hood, and pulls in real internet search as a tool. The whole thing runs on an old MacBook Pro and duct tape. Expect a casual conversation, a live demo, and plenty of room for questions.

To ensure everyone feels welcomed and supported, we ask that you review and abide by our Code of Conduct during our meetup.

Who are we?
The YEG JavaScript, Python, and Ruby organizers are teaming up to bring back in-person meetups and talks. We aim to help explore topics in those three languages, but also web, mobile, data science, and machine learning in general.

There is always an opportunity for you to practice public speaking in our welcoming and beginner-friendly environment: DM @aaron.yong on Slack if you're interested/curious!

For more information, join us on the Dev Edmonton Slack at https://devedmonton.com/#about-our-slack, and/or visit https://exchangejs.com.

Once you're on Slack, check out the #meetup-javascript, #meetup-ruby, and #meetup-edmontonpy channels to connect with like-minded folks, ask questions, and discuss your new/favourite topics.

Sponsors, Special Thanks
The meetup is sponsored by our community champions (list can be found on Dev Edmonton's website: https://devedmonton.com). Thank you to Edmonton Public Library (Strathcona) for the meeting space. We especially thank the Dev Edmonton Society for their organizational, logistical, and monetary support.

We're always looking for additional help: if you or your company is interested, please get in touch on our Slack (DM @aaron.yong)! Thank you for expressing interest!
