Norishio – English & Japanese Language Exchange
A small, study-focused English/Japanese language exchange near Metrotown.
📅 Wednesday at 7:15 PM
👥 Maximum 8 participants
What is Norishio?
This event is hosted by a Canadian and a Japanese native speaker and is designed for people who want to actively improve their English or Japanese in a supportive, small-group environment.
Rather than simply chatting, we’ll focus on asking questions, learning new expressions, discussing language nuances, and helping each other improve. Our goal is for everyone to leave having learned something new.
Who Can Join?
This is an event for native English speakers and native Japanese speakers (not for second language speakers)
Native speakers play an important role in helping others with:
Pronunciation
Natural expressions
Idioms
Cultural context
Language nuance
Japanese Learners
Please be at least an upper-beginner level.
You should be able to:
- Read and write hiragana
- Introduce yourself in Japanese
- Hold a simple conversation
What to bring
This is a study-focused event, so please bring:
- A notebook
- A pen or pencil
- A few questions you’d like to ask
The more prepared you are, the more you’ll get out of the evening.
Community & Safety
Our goal is for everyone to feel comfortable, learn a lot, and have a great time.
We are committed to creating a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants. Please be kind, patient, and considerate of others.
If you experience any problems or feel uncomfortable for any reason, please speak with one of the hosts as soon as possible. We take participant safety seriously and will do our best to address concerns promptly and respectfully.
Any reports made to the hosts will be kept confidential and will only be shared with Benkyoukai organizers when necessary to address the situation.
Attendance & Waitlist
To keep the group small and effective, attendance is limited to 8 people.
We also try to maintain a balance between English and Japanese native speakers (ideally 50/50), so we may occasionally adjust the attendee list to help maintain this balance.
Only members marked “Going” may attend the event.
If the event is full, please join the waitlist. Cancellations do happen, and waitlisted members are often able to get a spot.
We look forward to studying with you!
