What we’re about
This is a group for hiking in El Dorado county. Both locals and non-locals welcome. Varied days/times, varied lengths and difficulties -- from casual walks to mountains. Varied locations too, but usually on the western slope. Hikes are usually posted a few days to a week before they happen. Pick the events that work for your schedule/interest.
The hikes are free, with free parking as well, except when otherwise noted.
Rules:
- No dogs allowed now. Unfortunately, although the dogs were nice, their owners created too many liability issues by refusing to follow the law and risking the safety of people, dogs and wildlife in and out of the group.
- If you can't make it, change your RSVP -- even if you don't know until 1 minute before the meetup start time, change your RSVP at that time so that we don't wait around for you.
- If there are people RSVPed who haven't arrived yet, we'll generally wait 5 minutes (sometimes longer depending on the circumstances).
- If there's a wait list for a meetup, people with a history of no shows will be removed to make room for those more likely to attend. When there's a wait list, please try to update your RSVP at least a day in advance if you can't make it.

See all- El Dorado Trail: Front Yard to The CutAlong Motherlode, Placerville, CA
Out in the light, back in the dark. This is a moderately-hilly 5.5 mile total out and back featuring the trail's best dynamited railroad cut, a presently-dry creek, and usually cows.
Optional extra: Make the 4 mile drive to the community observatory after to enjoy the meteor shower (even though the moon will wash it out a bit) along with the rest of the universe -- $2 parking.
To find our hike parking location:
Park in the gravel along Mother Lode by the defunct Front Yard Nursery.
If heading east along Motherlode (which should be the case if you're coming from Sacramento, Shingle Springs or Diamond Springs) you'll be looking for the gravel area on your left just after crossing the railroad tracks. If heading west on Motherlode from Placerville, it's just past Venture Road on your right before the tracks.More info: https://www.eldoradohiking.com/el-dorado-trail-front-yard-151.html
