Looking for a quick but challenging evening hike with spectacular scenery? This is a steep 2 miles that'll feel like 7. The trail descends into a steep river gorge and may be dangerous for some people, so know your limits and have good traction/balance, hiking sticks recommended. There are a couple spots where you have to raise or lower yourself around a tree or rock with your arms. Beautiful area with immense granite walls, flowers, small caves, sinkholes, and Cosumnes River access.

Park on the street just before the curve -- entering "Cosumnes River Gorge Parking" on google maps will get you there. You can park on either side of the road wherever you see room, there's various options. To spot the trail, look for the curve and all the bumper stickers on the barrier. Don't trust address numbers because there are no buildings nearby. We'll gather and wait at the start of the trail.

Rules reminder:

  • No dogs allowed. Unfortunately, although the dogs were blameless, their owners have repeatedly risked the safety of people, dogs and wildlife in and out of the group. Ignoring this rule will result in immediate removal from the group.
  • If you can't make it, change your RSVP -- even if you don't know until 1 minute before the meetup start time, change your RSVP at that time so that we don't wait around for you.
  • If there are people RSVPed who haven't arrived yet, we'll generally wait 5 minutes (sometimes longer depending on the circumstances).
  • If there's a wait list for a meetup, people with a history of no shows will be removed to make room for those more likely to attend. When there's a wait list, please try to update your RSVP at least a day in advance if you can't make it.
  • You hike at your own risk. We try to keep people from getting lost or injured, but you are ultimately responsible for yourself and knowing your limits.
  • Any sort of bigotry (based on gender identity, race, religion, etc.) is unwelcome and would result in removal.
